Makerere University held its 72nd graduation ceremony last week at Freedom Square on the main campus.
According to the university’s academic calendar for the academic year 2021/2022, the 72nd graduation ceremony ran for 5 days from Monday 23rd to Friday 27th May 2022.
The graduation saw thousands of students walk away with degrees and diplomas in their respective courses.
The Chancellor, Prof. Ezra Suruma conferred degrees and awarded diplomas to 12,550 graduands; 6,433 (51%) female and 6,117 (49%) male.
Of these, 108 were conferred upon PhDs; 38 (35.2%) female and 70 (64.8%) male, while 1,160 were conferred upon Masters degrees; 434 (37.4%) female and 726 (62.6%) male.
This year’s graduands had a chance to finally celebrate after the learning difficulties they faced amidst the COVID-19 Pandemic.
The academic calendar further indicates that additionally, semester two of the 2021/2022 academic year will run from Monday 30th May 2022 to Sunday 4th September 2022 for fourteen weeks.
