Professor Nawangwe has been re-instated for the second term as Makerere university vice chancellor. This follows the provision of section 31(4) of the universities and other tertiary institutions Act, 2001 (as amended).
The appointment of Mr. Nawangwe has been received with mixed emotions by Makerere Lecturers asserting that the 65 year old is eligible for this office. They cited that the fact that Mr. Nawangwe will be 70 by end of his term, it will be contrary to the age mandated for a vice chancellor at Makerere University to retire.
Well, Prof Nawangwe had praise and gratitude for the Makerere University Leadership and Chancellor for another term received and ensured that he will serve diligently.
“Am extremely humbled by the confidence put in me by the university chancellor and the university council for re appointing me as the vice chancellor ,“ said Prof Nawangwe.
Prof Nawangwe was congratulated by the university committee upon his appointment and the committee guaranteed continued collaboration and support through out his new tenure.
“The Makerere University Community congratulates Prof Nawangwe on this new appointment and guarantees collaboration and support, as Makerere University enters a new century of service to humanity”
