“Health and refugees initiative and the republic of Braunda” was the debate that started the 3rd annual inter-university public interest litigation moot court competition held 11th May 2022 at Cavendish University Law Faculty, Bukoto Street.
While giving his opening speech, the Coordinator of the Network of Public Interest lawyers, Nsereko Arthur highly recommended participation in this event because of its empirical nature.
“Practical application of the law on podiums with real judges is important to all law students because it not only builds one’s skill and confidence, but it helps one to discover their area of interest in regards to their career journey,” Nsereko Arthur said.

With 9 universities participating in the event, this year’s competition was intended to focus on enhancing public interest litigation in the post COVID-19 era and the attendees were;
*Cavendish University
*Islamic University In Uganda (Kabojja )
*Gulu University
*Uganda Pentecostal University
*Bishop Stuart University
*Nkumba University
*Makerere University
*Uganda Christian University
*Kampala International University
Participants went back and forth battling against each other with the case as presented by the organizing committee to uncover a winner.
In the first round, six universities were cut off leaving only four which are;
Team A-Bishop Stuart University
Team B -Cavendish University Uganda
Team C-Gulu University
Team H- Uganda Pentecostal University
Team B battling against team H and Team A battling against team C. For the final round, Uganda Pentecostal University lost to the hosts of the event, Cavendish University who took it home.
Prof. Omolade Olomola, the dean of the school of law, thanked the judges for sparing their time to come and support young talents, and also all thanked the students for participating and taking out time to do their research before presenting their arguments.
