26 top young journalists from 10 different universities selected to join the prestigious Media Challenge Fellowship.
The group makes up the 5th Cohort of the fellowship and the selected fellows will gain a unique chance to learn and practice cutting-edge multimedia journalism skills for the digital age from leaders in the media industry.
In representation of the different universities are students from various institutions of higher learning which include Makerere University, Nkumba University, St Lawrence University, Kampala International University, Cavendish University, Makerere Business Institute, Uganda Christian University, Uganda Martyrs University, UMCAT school of Journalism and finally Victoria University.
In an interview with MCI Radio, some of the fellows shared some of their thoughts on what their expectations for the fellowship are.
Solomon Kisakye affirms that being chosen as one of the fellows is a privilege based on the fact that many people applied and out of the hundreds, only 26 were chosen.
“I expect to learn a lot from the fellowship as I look out to understand the factors that influence the media. I also expect to be able to network with facilitators and my fellow peers,,,,” he said.
As the excitement is still high, Tracey Kansiime, a fellow in the 5th Cohort expects to come out of the fellowship well equipped with skills that will help her take on the challenges that the media industry brings.
“I expect that by the end of the fellowship, I will be able to put into action most of what I have been trained in and as well get ready to take on the challenges that might be in the industry in order to adapt to how best I can put myself in the line of opportunities,,,” Tracey Kansiime noted.
The 26 fellows were selected from the 7th edition of the Inter-University Media Challenge, an annual event which brings together students of journalism and those interested in the profession to compete, showcase talent in news gathering, production and presentation. These will undergo a six month intensive multimedia training.
Congratulations to the new fellows
