“It seems like Yesterday when IUIU opened it’s gates to the pioneer 80 students way back in 1988, February 10th, There was a lot of hope, tinged with trepidation and even palpable skepticism. Would IUIU survive? Can Muslims in Uganda run a University? Would it’s degrees and diplomas be acceptable like those of Makerere University? Where would the students of Arabic Language work?” Said Professor Ismail Simbwa Gyagenda at the 3rd IUIU Alumni Dinner.
The alumni of the Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) under their umbrella body IUIU Alumni Association held their 3rd grand Dinner in Kampala at Hotel Africana on 12th February 2022.
At this dinner where the Chief guest was Rt Honorable 2nd Deputy Prime Minister General Moses Ali who was represented by the Chief IUIU Alumnus, Rt Hon. Lukia Isanga Nakadama, and Rt Hon Oleru Huda Abason the 3rd deputy prime minister and minister without portfolio who is also a member of parliament, Minister of Defense and Veteran Affairs, Dr Abdulnur Sekindi, Chairman of IUIU Alumni Association plus many others whose theme moved on Re – Imagining and Re-thinking the Role of Alumni Associations in University Transformation.
Through this dinner, the IUIU Alumni Association launched a scholarship program aimed at supporting needy students at the institution.
Speaking during the event, IUIU alumnus Hajjat Aisha Nambooze said the first two beneficiaries of the scholarship program have already been identified.
“Among others , the scholarship fund is aimed at helping needy students to realize their academic dreams. The funds will help to support the financially challenged students to get quality education,” said Hajjat Aisha Nambooze.
The Interim Chairman of IUIU Alumni Association Mr AbdulNur Sekindi said the scholarship program is one of the programs lined up to support the university.
Mr Sekindi who is a professional officer in the Organization of Islamic Organization (OIC) in Jeddah , Kingdom of Saudi Arabia said the IUIU Alumni association is here to stay.
“The scholarship program is one of the programs lined up to support our University. We are who we are today because of the Islamic University in Uganda and we need to give back to the university. Through the association, we have lined up several programs to benefit the university,” Sekindi said
